From Tails of Hope

Verdi -
Verdi is an adult female kitty who is very tolerant and sweet. She is already spayed and loves to snuggle on your lap. She was found alongside a major highway with a broken leg and part of her tail in very bad shape. Verdi was taken to the local shelter where she was immediately transported to the vet. Her leg could not be set since it showed a previous break which had not healed properly. Due to the injury of her tail, part of it had to be amputated.

After many weeks of confinement at the vet's office, Verdi came to the Tails of Hope Cattery. At first she was afraid of the other cats, especially since she could not jump and walked with a limp. However, after some TLC she has healed and adjusted very well and likes to be loved and played with. She is looking for a loving home where she could be the only kitty and would never be cold and frightened again.

Verdi is being fostered in the Columbia area.

Pet Care Guide
Feline mammary tumors
Mammary cancer is the third most common cancer among cats. The average age at which a cat will become infected is ten to eleven years. About 90 percent of these cancers are malignant, although even benign tumors should be surgically removed immediately.
Rabies facts
Rabies is a disease caused by a virus found in the saliva of infected animals. Bats, raccoons, foxes, skunks, dogs, or cats are the most frequent carriers.
What shots does my cat need?
Because medical terms aren't really meaningful to most people, veterinarians usually abbreviate. A new kitten will receive what's called an F-R-C-P shot, as well as another for rabies.
Animal eye injury
One of the most common eye problems among animals is injury to the cornea (KOHR-nee-uh), the eye's transparent outer layer. This may occur if the eye is scratched, when bits of grass become lodged in the eye, or foreign matter blows into the eye.
Saltwater fish care
Okay, so you've gone through the whole aquarium routine and have it down pat. If you feel you're ready for the big time, a saltwater tank will give you a whole new set of challenges.
Traveling with your dog
The safest way to take your dog on a long trip is in a crate, or pet carrier. The enclosed space soothes the dog's natural instincts for a small, safe, den.
Caring for rodents
Hamsters, gerbils, mice, and rats make good pets. They're fairly easy to care for and fun to watch. All rodents have large front teeth that grow all their lives.
Parrot care
Even if you never teach Polly to talk, she'll definitely let you know when she wants a cracker. Many parrots, especially those who have spent most of their lives with people, develop very human characteristics.
Weight problems in pets
Obesity is a common nutritional problem for dogs and cats, especially for females and older breeds. Overweight pets are often fed too much and lack adequate exercise.
Feline urological syndrome
Feline bladder disease or feline urological (yer-row-logical) syndrome is a disorder of a cat's urinary tract. It is characterized by the presence of mineral crystals (often called 'sand') which can irritate the lining of the urinary tract, plug the urethra (yer-ree-thruh), and form bladder stones.
